Head of Engineering / Lead Engineer (Remote / Berlin) (m/f/d)

What you will do

• Actively plan new features, develop and maintain our microservice-oriented services and Infrastructure
• Build, manage and maintain a high performance engineering team spread on different countries
• Provide leadership & guidance to the team
• Ensure clarity around priorities and goals for the department and make sure tech debt, security, costs and other factors are included in your decision making
• Empower and mentor people to grow, improve their craft and deliver high-quality code and products
• Help enforce and continuously improve software engineering practices, processes and tools within the program
• Make sure we continue to have an open and transparent feedback culture
• Team up with the Product Leader on product matters
• Collaborate closely with others across the organization (DevOps, Product, Marketing)
• Actively hire new team members in collaboration with our HR team
• Engage with agency providers, consultants, and other suppliers
• This role includes active development of 60-80% of your time

Your profile

• You combine all relevant technical skills (php7, Golang, Elastic Search, VueJS, Kubernetes), to a level that allows you to be naturally seen as a leader
• You have previous experience in (international) team management, ideally on a remote and onsite setup
• You are an excellent communicator. You enjoy explaining difficult concepts to different audiences, including to your own team
• You have proven experience in a microservices architecture
• You have seen different platforms in the course of the last few years and you are aware of best-practices while also being open for new approaches
• You are highly motivated and want to have an impact on a huge project
• Challenges make you thrive, you are solution oriented and show persistence
• You present a hands-on mentality
• You do not shy away to lead the team through complex projects by planning the direction the team should work in
• In collaboration with the product team you are able to prioritize technical projects that will keep the system running alongside features that bring us forward
• You speak fluent English, German is a plus
• You are based in Germany or another EU-country and you do not mind traveling to Berlin few times a year to meet the team in person
• You are able to dive into diverse systems to spec and debug issues (RabbitMQ, MySQL, MongoDB, ElasticSearch)
